Hyalase (hyaluronidase) is used to specifically dissolve unwanted or poorly performed hyaluronic acid filler treatments. In our practice, this procedure has become one of the most frequently performed corrective treatments, as we see patients on a daily basis with fillers previously injected by other providers – often in delicate areas such as the under-eye region – that cause aesthetic or functional concerns.
The treatment is quick and precise: Hyalase is injected directly into the affected area and begins to break down the hyaluronic acid. In many cases, the filler dissolves noticeably within minutes. Depending on the amount and type of hyaluronic acid used, it may be necessary to repeat the treatment once or several times to achieve the desired result.
A major advantage of Hyalase is its high level of control. The enzyme specifically breaks down hyaluronic acid and primarily targets injected fillers. The surrounding tissue generally remains unaffected, as the natural level of hyaluronic acid in the fat and subcutaneous tissue of the face is very low.
Hyalase therefore allows for a safe and effective correction of hyaluronic acid treatments – particularly in cases of overcorrection, swelling or unnatural results.
Hyalase (hyaluronidase) is an enzyme that specifically breaks down hyaluronic acid. The treatment is used to dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers – for example in cases of poorly performed injections, overcorrections or swelling after a filler treatment, particularly in sensitive areas such as the under-eye region.
During a Hyalase treatment, a small amount of hyaluronidase is injected directly into the area where the hyaluronic acid filler is located using a very fine needle. The procedure takes only a few minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis.
Hyalase works very quickly. In many cases, the hyaluronic acid filler begins to dissolve visibly within minutes. Depending on the amount and type of filler used, the result may continue to improve over the following hours.
Hyalase treatment is generally well tolerated. The injections are performed with very fine needles and usually take only a few minutes. Most patients experience only a mild burning sensation or slight pressure.
The number of sessions depends on the amount and type of injected hyaluronic acid filler. In many cases, a single treatment is sufficient. For larger volumes or highly cross-linked fillers, it may be necessary to repeat the treatment one or more times.
