The BroadBand Light (BBL™) IPL technology is a modern, non-invasive light therapy for skin rejuvenation and improvement of skin quality. This technology has been around for many years and is commonly known as IPL. However, the company Sciton has trademarked this specific application under the name BBL™. Its best-known systems include Sciton BBL HERO, Sciton BBL HEROic, Sciton Joule BBL and Sciton BBL Forever Young. The principle of the treatment remains the same. BBL uses intense pulsed light (IPL) that penetrates deep into the skin and specifically targets pigments, vessels and damaged skin structures. At the same time, it stimulates the skin’s natural regeneration and boosts collagen production.
BBL treatment can be used to address age spots, sun spots, sun damage, pigmentation irregularities, redness, couperose, rosacea, broken capillaries, fine lines and wrinkles, as well as dull or uneven skin. The treatment is suitable for various areas such as the face, neck, décolleté, hands or arms and can be individually adapted to each skin type.
Before the treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared. During the procedure, the BBL device delivers short, controlled pulses of light to the skin, targeting specific structures without damaging the skin surface. A session typically lasts around 15 minutes. As this is a non-invasive treatment, there is usually no downtime, allowing patients to resume their normal daily activities immediately afterwards. After the treatment, pigmentation spots may temporarily darken. This is a normal process, as the pigments move to the surface of the skin and naturally shed within 5 to 7 days.
