The neuromuscular relaxant is a protein obtained from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Three preparations containing this active ingredient are currently approved in Switzerland, but only one of these is for aesthetic applications.

The active ingredient inhibits the transmission of excitation from the nerve cells to the muscle, so that the contraction is weakened or completely eliminated, depending on the dosage. The effect only occurs in the direct injection area. It takes around 7-10 days for the protein to take effect in the muscles; the maximum effect is achieved around four weeks after treatment. With the dosages commonly used in the aesthetic field, systemic remote effects are practically impossible. Once it has set in, the effect lasts for weeks to months. After around three months, the effect slowly diminishes and full recovery of muscle activity usually takes around six months.

Wrinkle treatment with this active ingredient is carried out on an outpatient basis. Under sterile conditions, the doctor injects the protein into the desired facial muscles using a fine needle. The entire treatment – including the consultation – takes around half an hour. The patient can return to work or other activities immediately afterwards.

Our concept: Minimally invasive, innovative treatment concepts that are individually tailored to your wishes and needs.

We will be happy to discuss with you what you want for your appearance during a free consultation. Based on this, we will work with you to develop a treatment plan that guarantees optimal results on an outpatient basis, cost-effectively and with as few side effects as possible.

FAQs on the topic Wrinkle treatment

How effective is muscle-relaxing injection for expression lines?

The active ingredient in this injection is a protein that is highly effective in treating expression lines when used in small doses. If you're considering this kind of treatment, Dr. Nikolaus Linde is your expert contact.

This protein inhibits the transmission of signals between nerve cells and muscles, which reduces activity in the targeted facial muscles and softens the appearance of wrinkles. For cosmetic use, the protein is specially prepared.

Injectable treatment to reduce wrinkles

The active ingredient is injected directly into the desired area. At the BEAUTYCLINIC by Dr. Linde, ultra-fine needles are used, making the treatment virtually painless. The skin is cooled beforehand to enhance comfort and tolerance.

Initial effects appear within a few days and last for several months before a touch-up is recommended. This injection can be effectively combined with other treatments like hyaluronic acid or autologous fat to restore volume.

Is the treatment painful?

The treatment is minimally painful: ultra-thin needles are used, and the skin is cooled prior to injection. In rare cases, the procedure can be performed with a numbing cream or under twilight sedation.

Will my face look frozen or expressionless afterwards?

The active ingredient is only injected into the specific muscles causing the unwanted expression lines. The face will look smoother and more refreshed while remaining naturally expressive. We avoid overcorrection to preserve your vitality.

How long has this injection therapy been used?

This type of injection has been used successfully in aesthetic medicine for over 30 years.

Can this therapy be combined with other facial treatments?

For very deep wrinkles, fillers (e.g. hyaluronic acid) can be added to enhance the effect. For sagging facial skin, we recommend supplementary radiofrequency treatments like Morpheus8. Additional options include microdermabrasion, HydraFacial, and chemical peels.

What side effects can the injections have?

Mild redness, slight swelling, or small bruises may occur after the injections. In rare cases, temporary weakening of nearby muscles may happen but typically resolves within 3–4 weeks. Other uncommon side effects include a feeling of tightness, dizziness, or headaches. You will receive detailed information about all risks and contraindications during your consultation.

How can I learn more about the treatment?
