Calcium hydroxyapatite and its components calcium and phosphate occur naturally in human tissue. Radiesse® is more than just a wrinkle filler: While other filling materials such as collagen or hyaluronic acid are usually broken down by the immune system as foreign bodies within a few months, Radiesse® stimulates the body's own collagen formation and thus leads to lasting results over several years.
Radiesse® is mainly suitable for the treatment of deep wrinkles such as nasolabial folds, mouth corners and chin wrinkles. It can also be used to restore skin volume that has been naturally lost, e.g., on the cheeks, due to a loss of fatty tissue under the skin. Radiesse® is therefore ideal for patients who do not want a face lift. The deep lines of wrinkles are reduced without the risks of a stressful operation. The replenished volume makes the skin on your cheeks appear significantly firmer. Other areas of application for Radiesse® are laterally lowered eyebrows, sunken scars and aged backs of the hands.
The preparation can be applied without special anesthesia. If you wish, we can perform the treatment under local anesthesia or a short anesthetic. After disinfecting the skin, Radiesse® is injected deep under the surface of the skin using ultra-fine needles. To ensure that the preparation is evenly distributed in the tissue, the treated area must be extensively massaged immediately after the injection. Cooling with cold packs in the first few hours after the treatment is helpful to reduce the sometimes not insignificant redness and swelling at the injection sites.
In order to achieve a good distribution of Radiesse® in the tissue, massage the treated area daily before going to bed for three to four minutes with gentle pressure, using a cream if necessary. Until the redness and swelling have completely subsided (usually after two days), you should avoid sunbathing and tanning beds.
The injected liquid immediately fills in wrinkles and volume defects. Radiesse® takes on the properties of your own surrounding body tissue and remains soft and flexible.
Wrinkles are evened out. Sunken areas, e.g., on the cheeks, become fuller and rounder and are given new volume. The skin appears firmer and tighter, and this result is usually achieved after just one treatment. As the collagen build-up under the skin stimulated by Radiesse® is only completed after around 2-3 months, it should only be decided at this point whether further treatment is required. The aesthetic improvements achieved last at least one to two years, but often much longer.
The side effects that usually result from the injections are temporary, minor redness, swelling and bruising at the injection site, which usually subside after about one to two, maximum six days.
No serious side effects have been observed to date. Occasionally, however, certain patients may develop palpable and, in rare cases, visible nodules at the injection site during the first few weeks, but experience has shown that these disappear spontaneously after 1-2 weeks.
