In many cases, correcting the eye area is crucial for a fresher, more vital appearance. Surgery would often be necessary to reverse these ageing processes. However, many patients (understandably) shy away from this, hoping instead for a minimally invasive procedure "without a scalpel". Technical progress now makes this possible. Fontana has developed a laser procedure that creates new collagen and tightens the skin to achieve results that could otherwise only be achieved with surgery. This procedure has been patented and is called SmoothEye® or laser lifting. This special procedure technique produces immediately visible skin renewal around the eyes. Thanks to an optimal sequence of subablative micro-pulses and the heat effect of the laser, the skin is tightened without damaging the upper layers of the skin. The effect can be seen and felt immediately: The tissue contracts, the formation of new collagen is stimulated and the ageing skin around the eye is significantly tightened – even the upper eyelid is visibly tightened.
Before the treatment, an anesthetic cream is applied or cold air is used. The treatment is then carried out in two steps with two different wavelengths. Erbium YAG is used first, which causes the collagen and connective tissue to heat up to 42-45°C over a few minutes. In a second step, a laser peel is then performed using a different wavelength.
Depending on the desired intensity, slight reddening and/or swelling of the skin may occur for 24 hours. Scaling and dryness of the skin can persist for up to a week, and direct sunlight should be avoided for four weeks. Almost all patients feel an immediate tightening of the skin immediately after the treatment, but the final results take 3-4 months. Once a result has been achieved, it will last for years. Depending on the extent to which the skin around the eyes shows signs of ageing, up to 3 treatments may be necessary to achieve a perfect result.
